TRUE GRACE BIBLE CHURCH
FOUNDED APRIL 22, 2001
True Grace Bible Church, a church with special emphasis on family worship, was founded by Reverend Rick Epps, Sr. and seven Christian families. The Church is an outgrowth of “Christian Families in Action”, a family Bible study group founded by Reverend Rick Epps and Brother Vergel Gray Jr. in 1985. This Bible study group applied God’s Word to family life issues for more than sixteen years.
On May 6, 2001, True Grace Bible Church held its first worship service at Lieder Elementary School, Houston Texas, at 10:45 A.M.
On September 9, 2001, Reverend Rick Epps, Sr. was installed as pastor of True Grace Bible Church. Reverend Al Green, a member of McGee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church officiated for Pastor Walter K. Berry (who was present but under the weather).
On August 4, 2002, True Grace Bible Church relocated to Anchor Baptist Church, where Pastor McDowell allowed True Grace Bible Church to share their facilities to worship God and serve our members and the community.
The original visit to Anchor Baptist Church was prompted by a request of a little boy to be baptized. Anchor Baptist Church and Pastor McDowell was recommended because the church had a baptismal pool. Corey Smith was True Grace Bible Church’s first member to be baptized, followed by Jordan Brock.
On March 9, 2003, True Grace Bible Church had its first ordination service. One minister, Reverend Melvin Dudley and two Deacons: Brother Perry Johnson and Brother Larry Meadows were ordained.
On February 23, 2004, True Grace Bible Church purchased 13 acres of land in Katy, Texas, the intended future site for True Grace Bible Church. However, the site proved to be too costly to develop. About a year later, True Grace Bible Church sold the Katy property and bought 1.3 acres of prime property from Anchor Baptist Church to finally build the church facility where we worship God in today.
In March, 2008, God blessed True Grace Bible Church to complete construction and moved into its new church facility: led by the Holy Spirit, True Grace Bible Church continued to serve its members and the community in its new church home located at
17370 West Little York Road, Houston Texas.
On November 13, 2011, God blessed True Grace Bible Church with another ordination service. Two ministers: Reverend Willie D. Underwood and Reverend Lynn Whiting; and two deacons; Deacon Aaron Hargrove and Deacon John Walker.
After over twenty years as pastor, Reverend Rick Epps, Sr. and the Board of Elders elected Rev. Willie D. Underwood as Assistant Pastor.
On January 1, 2022, Reverend Willie D. Underwood became True Grace Bible Church first Assistant Pastor.
On January 1, 2025, Pastor Rick Epps, Sr., transitioned from Pastor to Pastor Emeritus and Reverend Willie D. Underwood was voted in as Pastor of True Grace Bible Church, where he and Pastor Emeritus Rick Epps work very closely with the Board of Elders, Church Leadership Team, and the members to serve God’s people in the church and the community.
On June 29, 2025, True Grace Bible Church was blessed once more to ordain two of its ministers (what a blessing): Reverend James Adams and Reverend John Walker; where they both continue to help the Pastor, Board of Elders, Deacons, and Leadership Team to serve and meet the needs of God’s people.
As True Grace Bible Church journeys into the future, led by the Holy Spirit, we will be submissive and obedient to God’s Word: praying that our plans are in line with His plan for us and always according to His will!
